MESO-Rx Steroid Blog: Former IFBB Pro Bodybuilder Shelley Beattie Dead at Age 39

I absolutely loved Shelly. Shelly was only on the show for a few years, but we became very close friends. I did not participate in the Orlando Gladiator events as I had just become a mom. Shelly was a beautiful, inteligent, woman in my mind that I find it hard to believe this news. I have nothing but prayers in my heart for her. I do not know the details of her passing, but know that she is in a better place and that God will take care of her.

I remember watching shelley and it's great to hear all the wonderful comments from those who knew her well. Shelly will be missed.

I assume yet another steroids-related death?
  • chuck · 1 year ago
I remember her from the 90s. She's going to be missed. Please don't jump the assumption that it's steroid related please. Let the facts come out first.

SHELLEY'S DEATH WAS NOT RELATED TO STEROIDS! SHELLEY FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT, IF YOU WERE REALLY CLOSE TO HER YOU WOULD KNOW THE FACTS AND IF NOT MAYBE IT'S NOT REALLY ANY OF YOU BUSINESS HOW SHE DIED. THE SAD TRUTH IS THAT SHE IS NO LONGER WITH US HERE ON EARTH - THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT SHE WAITING FOR US WHEN IT IS OUR TURN!
SHELLEY BEATTIE I WILL MISS YOU DEARLY! YOU FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT - I LOVE YOU GIRL!

Shelley will be sorely missed by everyone who watched her on television. I was shocked when I learned she had died. I would like to think right now she is in a place too beautiful to imagine.

Hey, anyone who is in the entertainment business has no business of their own. If one holds themselves out as exemplary, physically and artistically, they do become an example. A young woman dies at 39yrs of age, it begs the question from fans and viewers. No forthcoming answer only confirms anabolic steroid abuse.
As to Shelly "being in a better place waiting for us" I do doubt it. Cut the fantasy.
  • Donna · 1 year ago
Joe M Oakes - I speak not out of fantasy, or ignorance as it appears you do. I speak with the true knowledge of what happened to Shelley, anabolic steroid use played NO ROLE in Shelley's death. It's people like you that spew ignorance from your mouth and fingertips that should quit living in the "fantasy" of belief that you have a right to know the details of her life and death. She was no longer in the entertainment business, and her life was her business NOT YOURS!

I saw Shelley in the deaf newspaper and magazine in 1993 ago, I always cut the pictures of Shelley's famous body shape on wall in my garage and my goal want meet Shelley but I lost see her! I want to say for her "Shelley is the number one of top muscle shape than other deaf people in the world"
  • Bernard Bunuan · 1 year ago
Well, Joe Oakes, are you happy now knowing that it wasn't steroids that killed poor Shelley?! Are you satisfied? She was an amazing woman. Her accomplishments are to be admired, not sullied.

"Shelley Beattie Committed Suicide After Suffering from Bipolar Disorder | MESO-Rx Steroid Blog"

So in light of the above report, tell me, Mr. Oakes, don't you feel like the SOB you are? Steroids indeed! Give me a break!
  • Mike Durkin · 1 year ago
The comments made by Mr. Oakes are the exact reason the reset/delete buttons were created. And if they aren't available, there is the close button. Shelley had a life that should be well remembered. If you focus on the mistakes people made, and ignore the good things they did for themselves and others. You miss out on the masterpiece that is life itself.

Shelley was one of my fav Gladiators, speaking as a guy that lives with his depression. It's very tough to get through a month sometimes...and Shelley, when I get to where you are, bodybuilder or not, I'm gonna kick your butt.

Very sad indeed. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

I do agree that she ISN'T in some "better place", unless that better place only suggests her being free from an obviously pained existence. There is no heaven or hell; no life after death.

Shelley was a talented bodybuilder and athlete, and, by all accounts, a warm and friendly woman.

    Again, very sad.

    Respectfully,

    Rob

If you think there is no life after death and there is no heaven or hell, then you, my friend, are the one who is mistaken. You'll be going to one or the other when you die, so you'd better be prepared. Sorry to break the news.

& sad to hear about the loss.
  • Larry · 1 year ago
    Rob,

How do you know if there is no life after death? Have you experianced death to know? Obviously not?

So steroids was not the reson she committed suicide. But, could steroids have made her manic depressive or bi-polar? Well, if you pump a bunch of chemicals into your body, one can only assume.

Is her death sad? Yes it is. No onw knows where she is now. If she was saved, she is in heaven as no where in the bible is self destruction a sin that will send you to hell. But only God knows where she is.

God Bless you Shelley, You were always loved.

Sad indeed, I was a fan. Suicide is a controversy, if its ok to take ones life, then why does the world have such suicide prevention programs? Why do we even need them if all you have to do is kill yourself and you are automatically in a better place? heck if thats the case, we all need to check out, what is the purpose of overcoming and fighting if everyone automatically goes to a " better place"? Because each person is born with an instinct that suicide is not right, thats why there are support programs to attempt to assist those who are depressed. I hope she's in a better place but suicide is murder of ones self, how can you be foregiven of murder if you cant repent of it since you are already dead? If you cannot repent, God cannot forgive you hence a " better place " seems unlikey, sorry

It's sad to hear of such a loss. I can't imagine how her life had been living with that disease, and so young. That is something I have not totally researched yet. My heart and prayers go out to her family and loved ones effected by such a loss. I had the very beautiful warrior painting of her painted by Dean Williams in my livingroom....too bad it's in the possesion of my ex-husband now. But it's an awesome painting of her and capurted so appropriatly of the warrior she was and always will be in the hearts and memories of all who knew her and knew of her.

    Hey Lgald,
Jesus died and suffered for ALL of our sin, past and in the future. I knew Shelley. I used to work out with her at the Tigard, Oregon Health Habit back in the day. And Yes the Lord did forgive Shelley and can even forgive your thoughtless, rude, ignorance as well. Just get to know him. Read the gospel and get to know Him for yourself and you will come to the reason He allowed Himself to be crucified, which is Love! Love your enemy's, truly and you shall find the passion of Heaven!

Mr. Jack Kelly - very nicely said. For those who would much rather judge and condemn Shelley for the difficult choice she made, why dont you do a little research on Bipolar Disorder? I work in a library, where being curious comes in handy sometimes. Books on Bipolar Disorder can be found in the nonfiction area, around the 618's. If you don't have time to look around, try Wikipedia, you could learn quite a bit.

To the Partner and Family of Shelley- may God help fill that empty hole in your lives. To Shelley-thank you for waking me up.Living with eardrum transplants and running from bi-polar disease has led me in a life of always being outside of the box with suicidal thoughts raceing through my mind; sometimes.I have found strength from your story. To God-I was born this way so please keep me in the light. To the rest of the readers- please get educated before you assume or leave an oppinion.

I JUST FOUND OUT THAT SHELLEY PASSED AWAY..I AM DEEPLY SADDENED BY HER DEATH. I LOVED HER ON AMERICAN GLADIATORS AND SHE WAS ONE OF THE FEW GLADIATORS THAT WOULD GO OVER TO THE CONTESTANT TO MAKE SURE THEY WERE OK AFTER A BRUTAL EVENT SHE WAS IN.. I DONT CARE HOW SHE DIED, I JUST WANNA SAY SHE WAS A GREAT PERSON AND SEEMED KIND TO ALL SHE ENCOUNTERED...IT PISSES ME OFF WHEN SOMEONE PASSES AWAY AND OTHER PPL WHO THINK THEY KNOW THAT PERSON, MAKE JUDGEMENTS AGAINST THEM WHEN THEY ARE NO LONGER HERE!!!!!!
SHE WAS A TRUE INSPIRATION TO THE DEAF COMMUNITY AND WITH PPL WITH DISABILITIES....WHO CARES HOW SHE DIED!!!! THE WORLD IS TRULY LOST WITHOUT HER AND I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HER... SHE WAS THE BEST!
