I think ignorant people like the very bottom post never knew any of the doctors personally or what they were trying to do. I don't think anyone is going to defend the doctors that wrote prescriptions for people they never met but a lot of good doctors got caught up in this too. Daniel, I am so glad you stuck to it and qot acquitted. I used to see Dr. Jesse Haggard and he was the best doctor I had ever seen. He spent more time with me and other patients and cared more about not just treating chronic disease but improving people's quality of life than any other doctor I have ever known. It saddened me that he pled guilty but I think he needed to get his life back.

The media deserves a lot of blame in all of this. They can't differentiate between using Steroids to cheat at sports and for theraputic uses. Any doctor that practices in this field is going to get patients that have been juicing on their own and already damaged their bodies. A good doctor can usually help straighten them out if they want to. In Jesse's case I think he got blamed for a few people that came to hime who already had major drug problems and he tried to help. Anyone can take a month's supply of pretty much any drug in a day and cause a lot of damage to themselves.

I am really saddened by what has happened, not just becuase I know good people got caught up in it but because it has had an effect on other doctors who might be considering offering these types of therapies to their patients but won't becaue they don't want their lives turned upside down.

Re: Political Grandstanding in Applied Pharmacy Services Indictment for Steroid Distribution

Gentlemen,
I am saddened to hear the news of what has transpired in regards to APS and those who under their employ. These drugs are life saving, improve the quality of life, and give us the power to face up to our individual everyday problems. These men who are facing jail sentences is a travesty, they are actually keeping us alive and well and for that, they are going to jail? Athletes who use steriods are taking seven or more dosages thatheththtn normally required to, usually die or find themselves in jail because just like any other drug, even aspirin, will begin to suffer from side effects common with the drug or drugs taken. However, when prescribed by a doctor who is medically able to monitor the patient taking steriods, given a pimple or two, show none of the violent episodes that happens when abuse is practiced instead. I wake up in the morning with a smile on my face not caring about what the day has in store for me. I hit the gym and set out to do what is required of me. Sir, that is the mental state of a person who is under a physician's scrutiny while taking these drugs, that is me. I implore you, please talk to physicians or a patient like me and ask how I feel and the effects I experience while taking anabolic steroids. Or do some of your own research and you will see the positive effects that steroid use has done for so many. In addition, there are no drugs available as of yet that can stem the diseases ravages on the body. Steroids taken by a patient who is under a doctors care presents no danger and if there are any signs of danger, the doctor can make the right decision as to how to deal with any problems should the present themselves.Steroids have gotten a bad rap because of a few who abuse them and people like me and the two men who are now going to have to face jail sentences for giving us back our lives and good health. Are steroids dangerous? Of course the are in the hands of a fool. I can tell you what happens using steroids under a doctors care: I look great and feel great. I am an honor student in college with a 3.77 GPA and my mind is very focused. Steroids have a lesser effects on the body than chemotherapy and nobody is even up in arms about that. Therefore, I submit to you: Your unwillingness to allow steroids is illogical since it is the only thing that helps people regain their strength and quality of life, chemotherapy robs an individual of the quality of life and dignity they deserve. I submit to you: Steroids do have a place in the medicinal care of certain people as does Chemotherapy. Both have their ill-effects on the body, it depends on whether they are being used, or abused. And finally, the courts have to look past the abuse of steroids and at their medicinal potential, and not send these awesome men to jail for making us feel good and look good. Gentlemen please talk to people like me and find out what anabolic steroids has done to us; I can assure you that the taboo of taking these drugs will soon be eradicated along with the jail time these wonderful men face.
Sincerely,
Frank D. You helped more people than you realize and may never know. The unfortunate fact is that hot-topic subjects such as this tend to get generalized and labelled 'bad' without folks stepping back and looking at the facts behind your intention. I believe that what you were doing was intended to help people in a desperate situation that truly needed it for it's intended purpose. I do not know all the facts about this case, but it smells like a politically motivated witch hunt.

I hate to see our justice system being swayed by the group with the biggest bucks, if this is the case with what happened here. I believe there is sometimes a difference between what is legal and what is right.

Please keep your chin up. I for one recognize your efforts and good deeds!

Re: Political Grandstanding in Applied Pharmacy Services Indictment for Steroid Distribution

This is Daniel Riedel, previously a defendant in the Applied Pharmacy steroid case now finishing up in Mobile, AL. On January 28th I was acquitted of all charges against me in the trial after the defenses motions following the close of states evidence. My concern is in this statement is that people such as myself are indicted and demonized in many news venues all over television, newspapers and the internet. HOWEVER, when we are found not guilty, or in my case, acquitted, there is no mention of this action… no news stories, no internet commentaries…the only thing left in the public’s sight are the long-lingering Google searches showing the negative… and nothing when we are vindicated.

After observing the 4 weeks of prosecution by our very corrupt government, and the lack of concern by the media at large when defendants such as myself get no press when we are no longer the big, bad story, I am left with a 99.9% distrust and distaste for our government, and NOW the same for the biased media at large.

None of these entities stand for anything anymore. There is no American dream. There is no “innocent until proven guilty”, there are few American’s who care about anything important. When did the people of this country allow themselves to become stupid to what is going on, and to let it all happen? Why doen't anyone speak up?

Regardless of these opinions I am sharing, I am determined to use the information and insight I have gained in a positive way. I am writing a book about my experience and appreciate all comments from other people, positive or negetive.

Re: Political Grandstanding in Applied Pharmacy Services Indictment for Steroid Distribution

Mr. Baker report is poorly written. It appears that his report took on a personal side. He should basely report the new. These individuals were indicted for possible criminal behavior. Apparently the attorney use of the term was correct in light of a 198 count indictment.
