Steroid testing doesn't work. Steroid education is a better approach, especially programs supported by scientific research.

However, that doesn't change observation that Dr. Goldberg fails to disclose his conflict of interest when pandering for taxpayer funding.

Re: Researcher Linn Goldberg Speaks Out Against Steroid Testing in High Schools

This is an old blog, but wow. Drug testing at the low levels done in Texas, Florida and New Jersey could not catch many kids. If you only test a couple of percent of the total during a year, knowing that steroids are cycled, then you have little chance of catching anyone. Likewise, when put to the test, drug testing did not reduce any drug or alcohol. So come again? Drug testing should be done? What a waste of money.

On the other hand drug education, not just steroid education, works if done in a manner as outlined by the National Institutes of Health's National Institute on Drug Abuse. Goldberg has a high school program that has been studied and evaluated and it seems to work. So diss on him for wanting to have kids use a program that works? Are you kidding? He could probably have made lots of money speaking for the drug testing folks, saying how great testing was, but didn't. Congress did not end up giving one penny for any prevention efforts. Too bad. It is still a problem in schools and no one is listening. So rail against people using science to back up their statements and follow your own beliefs, which appear grounded in nothing.
